A slow pan along a single Spirogyra cell. As I focus through the cell take a look at all the activity that’s going on inside. All this movement is caused by the activity of the proteins and vesicles inside the cell, and a process called cytoplasmic streaming, where the cytoplasm (the clear water-based fluid that fills the cell) is constantly circulated around the cell to keep all the nutrients and small molecules distributed. In big algal cells like this one you can see this process really clearly. Also try to spot the cell nucleus, a clear shape in the middle of the cell. .
