#wildflowersin the west are now blooming further north and higher in elevation, as spring progresses. Here the Milky Way illuminates the 9,000-foot peaks of the #graniterangein far northwest #Nevada. Arrow-leaf Balsamroot blooming in the foreground were buffeted by winds during this long exposure to create an impressionist look. Water and trees dominate
#congaree #NationalPark in #SouthCarolina. Waters from the Congaree and Wateree #Rivers periodically sweep through the park’s floodplain, carrying nutrients and sediments that nourish this unique ecosystem. Forested #wetlands, oxbow lakes and slow moving creeks provide ample habitat for fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects and other aquatic life. Despite all this life, when the water is still and the sunlight streams through the #cypress trees, it’s easy to find a peaceful solitude. Tranquil moments pass as sunlight filters through the clouds at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. On May 15th, the North Rim reopened lodging and restaurants which will stay open until mid-October. Opposite the South Rim, this side allows you to forgo the crowds, as the North Rim only gets about 10% of the park's overall visitors. With plenty of available day hikes and ranger-led programs, you can learn about the fascinating geology, wildlife and culture while falling in love with this jaw-dropping landscape. Mastering the morning commute is all about timing and patience. With more than 4,000 bison at
#yellowstone #NationalPark in Wyoming, viewing them from inside the car is often the best and safest option. Just remember, these wild animals are unpredictable, and much like people in #traffic, it’s best to give them space. Be sure to pull over and avoid blocking the road to watch #wildlife, and please do stay in the car if you encounter one of these incredible “jams”.

#wildliferefugeoffers unsurpassed views of the #pacificwith steep cliffs that drop dramatically to meet the ocean. It’s also one of the best places on the main Hawaiian Islands to view wildlife, as it’s home to some of the largest populations of nesting #seabirds. Those white dots? Yes, that’s them, settling down for the evening. In addition to the nesting birds, visitors have a chance to view spinner dolphins, Hawaiian monk seals, native Hawaiian coastal plants and #Hawai'i’s state bird - the nēnē or endangered Hawaiian goose. The Wind Canyon Trail is one of the best places to enjoy the
#sunsetat #theodorerooseveltNational Park in #NorthDakota. The last light shines on the badlands and sparkles in the water. The ever-changing Little Missouri River varies from a muddy trickle to a raging flood to a frozen highway at different times of the year. As the river carves through the soft clay of the badlands, it cuts away at its banks, constantly changing shape as it snakes northward to the Missouri River. #bigbend #NationalPark in Texas offers a chance to explore the Chihuahuan Desert while surrounded by the Chisos Mountains. Though a desert landscape, this place is far from deserted, so look for signs of wildlife. Grapevine Hills Trail is an easy walk that turns into a hike leading you up through beautiful boulder arrangements to the iconic Balanced Rock. #apostleislandsNational Lakeshore in #wisconsinis a chance to see an incredible transformation. As temperatures rise, the sheet ice breaks up, revealing the pristine waters of #LakeSuperior. Take in the vibrant shades of blue and green at Diablo Lake Overlook in North Cascades #NationalPark. About a three-hour drive from #Seattle, follow the North Cascades Highway, you'll be on a road trip that delivers some of the most marvelous views in #Washington. Pull over to enjoy the scenery, and stop and photograph the azure turquoise water and the ice-capped #mountains. As the highway ascends, the forest’s trees transition too, changing from Douglas-fir to mountain hemlock and #Pacific silver fir. It’s an overlook you won’t soon forget.
