Going to Peru I needed a bag pack that would’ve been comfortable for me to comfortably carry my camera kit with some other odds and ends that I needed to have with me at all time (Important shit like shades, gum, passports etc). The peeps at Ogio India suggested I try the Ogio Throttle. The Throttle is a top loading bagpack with ample space in side it. In the main compartment I carried an extra set of clothes (because the flight to Lima is notorious for misplacing bags), my Go Pros, Go Pro Fusion and my Sony 6300, Shades, SD Cards and Knick knacks for the cameras. The apparently water proof top flap has a felt lined pouch in which went the passport, wallet, power bank and wire to charge the phone. In the front of the bag is a zipped compartment which took some documents and a book and my notebook. On the sides are two pockets which if you unzip they will hold a bottle of water each. Other wise you can keep zipped up and they make for extra storage for smaller bits and bobs. When in the desert infilled the main compartment up with bottles of water as we were moving about the dunes trying to check the race out from different vantage points. Other than that the bag has a separate compartment for a 17” laptop as well. When fully loaded the bag is very comfortable to wear. I spent a lot of time with the bag on in the desert fully loaded and never felt tired or fatigued. All in all I find that the Throttle is a super bag to have for off the motorcycle activities. Will have to wait till I go riding with it to see if it is as good on the motorcycle as well. 📸 @shu_mar

As the jet lag starts to wear off and the coffee starts to kick in. It’s time to sit down and back up all the pictures from the last two weeks. The Dakar seems like a dream what a few days in the desert it was. Of course i am sure I shall end up posting some more stories and images from my time there but let me sort them out and see what I got. Till then here is Martin Porkop in his Ford Raptor. #dakar2019

As Dakar 2019 comes to an end. I salute everyone of those super human people who come here to participate in what is the toughest race in the world. Until I was there on the ground watching the race unfold before my eyes I couldn’t fathom how tough and insane this race is. I tip my helmet to you all of you. #dakar2019

Important extras zip tied and bolted onto the Sherco TVS Dakar Bikes so they are in handy spots in case the rider needs to make a quick change or fix while in the stage. Every likely space is used wisely. #dakar2019

I ran out of battery while someone was explaining the instrument cluster and what all devices are on behind it. So maybe I’ll do a more detailed post on the blog later but let me put it down here in a shorter form. Behind the road book and the GPS are these boxes and antennas. The one with the red green and yellow stickers is to call for help. Green is help is needed for someone. Red is I need help. It takes a helicopter 8 min to reach you once you press the button. The one you see in the first picture is a backup of the actual one. The yellow pouch is the absolute back up you use if you are in need of assistance. It is a universal beacon that plays on many frequencies and will alert the people who need to know ASAP. In the second picture above the road book are two spots where you can add any details required by the rider. Speed, bearing etc depending on their need. They are mounted higher so the riders don’t need to keep looking down. If one breaks the other one can be used. The GPS on the bars are a back up to the larger screen and can also have specified details on it as per the riders need. On then bars are mount a gsm and a satellite phone. Connected to a direct line in France is help is needed they can call the rider and speak and assess the situation and send help. The mic and speaker are very sensitive so even if you are far from the bike after a crash you can talk and communicate. Also on the bars is a watch to tell the rider the time. #dakar2019

The bivouac is an amazing place as soon as a vehicle comes in from a stage it goes to its little corner and the mechanics get to work. The team works into the wee hours of the morning sometimes seconds before the drivers have to line up to start a stage. Our guide Flo asked us if we wanted to meet a team and get closer to the buggy’s. I said “no no I don’t want to disturb anyone when they are working” she said “ they are happy to meet people who are interested” and lo behold not only did we get close we got a whole lesson on the car from the team it self. #dakar2019

We met Javi Vega yesterday in the dunes he was tired and lost. He had missed a few waypoints and was really at the end of his wits. He stopped by our camp and seemed like he had had enough. But after speaking to some of the people with us who encouraged him on he finished the stage yesterday second last. Today well rested and wrapped up in garbage bags to keep him dry he lined up to do the 180km transport stage. The Dakar is full of stories like this of these superhuman people. #dakar2019

Spent the afternoon at the bivouac ogling and staring at the craziness that ensues on the rest day at the Dakar. Caught up with the Sherco TVS team to wish them luck for the rest of the Dakar just before they left for the next bivouac 200km away. All in all a real fun day. #dakar2019

I don’t know what it is about the De Rooy Ivecos that is so amazing to watch race. Maybe it’s the way they look like what a truck should be or I like the Petronas team colour on them but they are just nuts. Here is me trying to get them to run over my GoPro. #dakar2019

The spot we were standing at was great as the motorcyclists and quad guys had to come down straight take a right over a dune the size of Godzilla and then go around the other side and show up down the dune hang a right before heading straight towards the finish. The bigger vehicles needed to go straight and avoid the dunes. So when a bunch of motorcycles would be in the vicinity you could see how they riders were getting confused and started second guessing the navigation. Imagine you ride this stretch you have been on the bike for 300 gruelling kilometres. Your navigation is telling you something but some other bike is coming down a dune where one is going straight and then here comes a jeep going flat not flinching. You need to make a call, look at the navigation decide what to do and go for it. For us it meant we got to see the bikes cross us twice at least giving us vantage points to get close. Here is KP after the last big dune heading out to the finish. Big day for Sherco TVS . #dakar2019 #tvsracing

As you look at this image of the dune look carefully the black dot on the top is a person standing and the spec coming down it @aravind_kp. Just to put this into perspective those are the dunes they tackled just before the end of the two day marathon stage. KP bike here was sounding different than when we saw him first. Because he must have. Crashed and put a big hole in his pipe. (There is a picture of it in my stories). #dakar2019 #tvsracing

What a bummer about CS today. Saw him in action for a bit yesterday but was really waiting to see him ride some dunes today. He crashed before he got to the point we were standing at and was then transported to a hospital. From what I hear he is fine but out of the race this year. What a bummer. #dakar2019
